Laptop lockup

It could be something to do with the cron jobs which run at 6.25 every 
morning. Maybe try either getting up for that time, or manually run the 
command:
run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily

from a root shell, and see of that makes it hang (which might take a 
while as these jobs take some time to finish)
