Thanks Dan for this bit of advise. I'll keep it in
mind. However, with all the trouble I've had with the
gutsy alt CD, like about 6 reinstalls that always left
a different part of the selected software not
installed, some kernels not having the required
rt61pci modules needed for my wifi card, etc, etc,
I'll be looking a /etc closely for a while. I'm
considering filing a bug report. Don't see how it
could be a bad CD(cd verified and md5sums checked)
since I was able to load by hand everything the CD
left out. I just now was able to get online using the
linux generic kernel and need to upgrade. What a
chore and just needed to complain about the buggy alt
i386 CD.
Your advise is good and I will remember it.
