[OT] Windoz Install CD and Linux?

I *thought* that I could verify your problem... but it turns out that I
just have a flakey cdrom drive in my laptop.
Tried booting from WinXPPro CD and the laptop (A21M Thinkpad) and it
would go straight to grub. Ditto for knoppix, so I knew I had a hw
problem. I finally let it boot all the way to Ubuntu & discovered that I
needed to slam (mildly of course) the darn drive closed to get the CD to
fire up & recognize the CD in the drive. Once I had it showing up in
Ubuntu, I did a standard shutdown with the CD still in the drive &
powered back on. Then it booted just fine.
Not sure if your problem is the same, but you might want to check your hw.
