no sound in totem while playing home dvd (intrepid)

Anyone? I have had comments from this other poster but they are not
appropriate for the situation at hand, a situation I have taken pains to
describe to him in unnecessary details.
So, bringing this thread back on topic, is this problem with sound in
Totem while playing a DVD just my Intrepid system? Have others
encountered it too? Solutions?
Please reply to this list only. I read this list on its corresponding
newsgroup on gmane.org. Replies sent to my email address are just
filtered to a folder in my mailbox and get periodically deleted without
ever having been read.
