Could we please keep this thread on topic. Let's just say that the
requirements of this scenario exclude vlc and let's just focus on Totem.

Please start another thread for this. Or, even better, please file a bug
with Ubuntu. That probably will be most helpful and constructive way to
get your wish granted.
