no sound in totem while playing home dvd (intrepid)

Hello,

I created a DVD from some home videos and burned it to a disc. I can
play that dvd in my dvd player (connected to a tv) and in machines
running Debian.

However, I am not able to get any audio in Totem while playing it on the
laptop running Intrepid. The audio works okay in VLC thought. How do I
fix the audio in Totem to play this DVD? Not only is there no audio in
Totem, but the 'forward to next chapter' or previous chapter buttons
also do not work in Totem.
