A sword in any culture takes a lot of skill to use well and live
against other weapons including a sword thus it is often a symbol of
leadership.

History as I remember it. MS did not take over from Commodore and
Apple, IBM did. IBM ran MS 3.1, if I remember right. I did not use a
PC, I used and IBM PC. People took to IBM computers because it was
marketed as a "business" computer not some little weak thing that
plays game. Funny thing is that game computers are stronger computers
than business ones but the average Joe bought the line and IBM cleaned
up with MS riding their coattails.
