I like vlc, because it often can play formats, which other players
cannot.

But ordinarily I like mplayer best, because i can use the keyboard keys:

"1", "2" for changing contrast

"3", "4" for changing brightness

I can do it directly when I am playing a video, and lots of videos has
bad brightness/contrast colors.
