The necessary changes for 8.04 (via -updates) to bring it up to 8.10 are 
very, very invasive, requiring at least upgrades to alsa-lib, 
alsa-plugins, pulseaudio(, and almost always, flashplugin-nonfree as 
well).  That amount of churn in an LTS is unacceptable.
