Live mesh from linux

Hi,
Windows is offering a free (as in beer) service called live mesh that
allows the user to control computers and share folders over internet.
Unfortunately you need activex controls to log on into another computer.
I tried using playonlinux+wine+iexplorer6 (I'm using ubuntu 8.10) but
when I log on the wine proccess sucks 99% of my cpu and I have to kill
the process.
Anyone had luck using live mesh or installing iexplorer7? I found LM
useful to connect to my family computer that runs windows. Virtualbox
+winXP combo works though.
Thanks,
