single user root login wubi

Hi all,

I recently installed a ubuntu 8.04 installation using the wubi
installer. Unfortunately, I forgot the password, so I need to resort to
the single user login, in order to change the root password

However, the normal way to get a single user login, editing the kernel
line in grub by adding single to the end (such as described here:
http://wiki.clug.org.za/wiki/How_do_I_reset_my_root_password%3F), does
not work for me. Grub ignores the 'single' kernel boot option and just
boots normally (ie., not in single user mode).

so my question is: how can one boot into single user mode when using a
ubuntu version installed through wubi?

thanks in advance,

Bram Kuijper
