spontaneous Compiz combustion

I've been noticing that every day or two, my machine spontaneously
reverts to not using Compiz (visual effects: none).  All the windows get
piled up on one desktop, and I have to turn Compiz back on and restore a
few settings.  This is with Intrepid, on a new machine with an nVidia
GeForce 8400 GS.  Anybody else seen this?
