OK I see the problem. Since I know zip about a MAC I got Google to
find me data on booting a MAC. I was directed here:
http://www.kernelthread.com/mac/osx/arch_fs.html
This tells me that a MAC is nothing but a rather poor version of Linux!
It has a init file that helps load the stuff, a /etc/rc where it finds
most of the things it needs and it boots an X video system just like we
have on Ubuntu.
But the way to boot MAC is wierd because a MAC has a MAC replacement for
a BIOS. It appears that where BIOS stops on Linux is not the same place
MAC stops.
I think it is a poor idea to try and boot a MAC with anything other
than the on switch on the computer.
My wife has been threatening to buy a MAC because she has trouble
with Windows. I am now going to install Ubuntu Hardy and see if she
doesn't like a cheap MAC better than Windows?
