Shrink Windows partition to permit a UBUNTU partition

Yeah it's possible.  To a point.  You'll find that NTFS likes using the 
end of the drive for the metadata it uses to find the files on disk. 
(and the actual name of that completely escapes me at the moment). 
However, if you have relatively little data on that partiton, that space 
may be empty and if it gets damaged, nothing is lost, XP will just 
rebuild that when it needs it.
