I have 1GB and mine shows 994.7MB (Gutsy) - but I also have onboard
video with reserved bios memory.

On two of my Hardy w/256MB it SM|System shows:
249.7MiB (255680 using free), 248.5MiB (254464 using free) on the other.
I'd have to check the bios on those to see what I reserved for video.
