  My response was not intended to prompt this bit of flame bait, people
ought to be free to use what ever OS they desire.

  Mayhap then this is an Ubuntu specific problem, I have 4 Linux
distro's on my system (including 8.04 LTS) and none of them has nuked
XP.

  Your opinion is noted, BUT, I want to boot what I want to boot on a
system that I have custom built and configured, I call this, freedom.

  I'm not going to argue with you, I'm merely stating my position, my
desires, and what I want to do, and I can do that because I have the
freedom to do so, YMMV.
