which ubuntu are you using?  totem in the later versions should
auto-prompt you to install missing codecs.  i usually just do this in a
terminal:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

...to pull down all the codecs i might need.  that also grabs the sun
java and a bunch of microsoft fonts etc. which you might not want.  you
shouldn't need medibuntu for this afaik but you might google adding the
medibuntu repository for some more information.
