installer doesn't see existing partitions

As update-manager failed on my laptop (Compaq Evo 800v), I made up my
mind to do a fresh install.
Now, the installer doesn't see the existing partitions, and just displays 1
line for the entire device ( /dev/sda ....) and the only choice I have
is to use the entire disc, loosing my NTFS partition (either in guided
or manul mode)

Here is the fdisk -l output

    Disk /dev/sda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
    240 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7752 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 15120 * 512 = 7741440 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0xd7dfd7df

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 1 949 7174408+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/sda2 950 7752 51430680 f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
    /dev/sda5 950 7614 50387400 83 Linux
    /dev/sda6 7672 7752 612328+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

As fdisk also works from the install cd (in rescue mode), it seems to be a
parted bug.

Had anybody the same problem?
I saw some bug reports about that, but with no other solution than to re-install
Windows...
