I _think_ he said he "won't" run a journalled FS because it's unreliable. 
That's just plain wrong.  It _may_ not be necessary to put a MySQL database
on a journalled filesystem, because good relational databases do their own
journalling (I _don't_ know if that's true of MySQL).
