It seems that going by your requirements, it might not be the greatest
for _you. Just because others find it useful for their needs does not
mean it is what you want :)

One thing to look into might be Xubuntu, which is considerably lighter,
but still pretty full-featured.
Using the Alternate install CD or the network install CD of K/Ubuntu
might be other options:
