Try Ctrl Alt F7.
Usually, Linux systems start several "virtual terminals" on boot. You
can switch between them with Ctrl Alt Fx (with 1 <= x <= 12). From F1 to
F6 you will find text terminals that let you log in, F7 runs the
graphical environment, and F8 and above are empty be default. If more
than one graphical session is active, they will show up at F8, etc.
