GRASS - GIS- getting and installing

Hi

 

I am new to Ubuntu and I am wanting to migrate from MS operating systems to
Ubuntu and would be very grateful if anyone could help me load the GIS
software GRASS onto my desktop running Ubuntu 7.10. I have followed the
online installation instructions, however although it seems as if grass was
downloaded, I am not able to actually install the software. Any help or
recommendations would be really appreciated.
