Isn't that like opening the Windows Registry to change a file association?
ssc1478:
1. open nuatilus
2. open the "edit" menu then open "preferences"
3. on the "views" tab (the first one - you should already be focused on
there) put a checkmark in the box next to "Show hidden and backup files"
4. click "Close"
Did it work?
There's also a toggle on the "View" menu in Nautilus to turn that
feature on and off. Try pressing CTRL+H.
