    You have the good cd-rom from your book. Now if you can't get the 
Live-cd to load it is because your computer bios is not set to boot a cd 
before the hard drive. Get into your bios and change that.

I have tried several senarios to get into my Bios to change boot order.
Among those are "Booting From the Install CD" which is on the Ubunto install
disk, and http://www-mdp.eng.cam.ac.uk/CD/bios.html .  This is for my Dell
machine. All methods call for hitting the appropriate (usually F key)at
system start.  I have done this and at no time does the Bios open, or do the
screen options noted show up.  In thinking about this The GRUB comes up
first.  This means that the boot order is GRUB first.  This gives a list of
start options including Windows, the default is to start Ubuntu if no other
choice is made.  I can not get into Bios.  I repeat for the third time: How
does one UNINSTALL Ubuntu?
