Actually, I'm just after the best possible bits of kit. When I bought my iPod, it fit the bill perfectly. When I picked my OS, *buntu was the best option.
Given the content of your response, I'm surprised you dropped the 'GNU/' off the front of 'Linux'...
FWIW, in response to the OP, my iPod (2nd incarnation of the 5th generation) worked fine with Amarok under Debian 3 and 4, and *buntu 6.10 and 7.04. Not tried it on this laptop yet, though. Can't find the cable...
