Hi Art,
sudo is a way to gain administrative privileges on your machine.
sudo requires a password. the same one you used to start your machine.

Try going to the "System" menu,  come down and click on  "Help and Support"

In the search box type  sudo and press enter,  Go down to ""Sudo manual 
page" and click it.
Quite a bit of reading there.
