Ubuntu 8.04 mit Firefox 3 != fatal combination !

you need to have 'universe' activated (iirc default nowadays).

$ sudo aptitude update
$ aptitude install firefox-2

it will setup everything for you. In the menu you'll have 2 FF icons (if you
like - one for ff 3.0 beta and one for 2.0.0.13)

>From there should be easy to put a starter somewhere prominent.
