I have found that for users new to Linux that it is best to install
the version that is at least two versions behind the beta release.
After they have used Linux for around two years, I usually recommend
that they move up to one version behind beta.
In my experience, stability and usability are usually important for
new users.
I haven't had a convert yet that I would recommend them to install
the beta release.
I started my Linux experience in 1999 with a beta release and almost
gave up on Linux, but it was still better than Windows 98 Second
Edition.
I found lots more help for Linux than for Microsoft products which
kept me from returning to Windows, even though I dual boot with
Windows XP Home Edition. Sadly, there are still a few sites that
insist on limiting themselves to Microsoft and Apple.
