how to install ubuntu to a box without display monitor?

Windows Xp is currently installed.
when i boot from the live cd, is it possible to ssh to the box from my
laptop?
if it can be done, i think everything can work out.
but the live cd has no password for the root, so i wonder if it can be logon
remotely.
