Absolutely! My home box requires no password as I am the only one who
accesses it; my laptop requires a password as it could be vulnerable
outside and my server uses passwordless ssh-key login with root access
disabled and only required ports open.

Linux is great on security but there is no need to go over the top.
Horses for courses as my old Gran used to say :)
