How can I install two versions of the same program simultaneously?

not good. I started with a problem with reading /var/lib/dpkg/status
so I changed also the admindir but when I installed dpkg again decided
to replace version 2.4 of OpenOffice.org with version 3.0m5 :-(

I will think about this again tomorrow morning.
