help my n00bie self please

ok sorry guys im a super newb and just sign up.... anyway to actually
connect to the internet.... i tried manuel once putting in the ip, gateway,
ect
but it didnt work and i cant connect to the internet sadly :'( anyawys help
would be nice... or direction to a guide on how to get it working
