note that it is best to reinstall the driver, especially if you use sudo
apt-get dist-upgrade to upgrade your version of linux.
i had a similar thing happen to me where i updated my ubuntu, and my
video drivers ceased to work aswell, so i just reinstalled the video
drivers and boom, it worked again!
You should try reinstalling them
