1. I didn't judge your level ....your response to the email did.
2. If a package is built by the Ubuntu team a certain way; but I want my
own tweaks, I just might want to compile my own source.
3. Learn to RESPECT the integration of the OPEN SOURCE COMMUNITY.

Newbies should not compile+install anyway. They have to learn too.
The OP goal was just to run apache+PHP. Really no need to compile from 
source.
