for home user - no
for a business/network computer - i would recommed it
and there are viruses for linux.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/10/06/linux_vs_windows_viruses/ says:
"There are about 60,000 viruses known for _Windows_, 40 or so for the
_Macintosh_, about 5 for commercial _Unix_ versions, and perhaps 40 for
_Linux_. Most of the Windows viruses are not important, but many
hundreds have caused widespread damage. Two or three of the Macintosh
viruses were widespread enough to be of importance. None of the Unix or
Linux viruses became widespread - most were confined to the laboratory."
but if you feel as though you want an antivirus installed, you can
either search the ubuntu repositories or download avast! linux edition
