There are indeed viruses for Linux, but they can't really do much damage on
a well secure system. The entry at Wikipedia offers a reasonable, if
simplistic explanation. See

Providing you keep up with the security and software updates, and do do
anything monumentally stupid with your system you should be reasonably OK.
