"atop" is a program like "top" except that it uses a daemon (background
process) to collect its information. It is not installed by default.
If you don't like it, just remove the "atop" package (using synaptic or
by doing "sudo apt-get remove atop").
You can use synaptic to determine if you have another package installed
that depends on it, or you can do "apt-cache rdepends atop" for the same
effect.
