I've not owned a Mac, but I've dealt with them a lot. They have a
cost; a more serious cost than a PC, but that's part of the good; these
people *love* being the best customer service people around. Kinda like
a Craftsman tool.
And the hardware's good. I mean really, really good. These units
are designed to be worked on, to cause little trouble; to be of good
power. One of the reasons I never bought one was the price...not the
hardware.
But there's a philosophical reason to chose a Mac or not: user
experience. Not how much he _knows_ but instead how much he _wants_ to
know. Is the buyer someone who likes to tinker, getting the most for
his computing dollar? Then he'll probably want Linux, and possibly Linux
-on-Mac.
But if he drags a CDROM icon into the trashcan to eject it, and it
doesn't occur to him to wonder why, he needs a Mac. If more than one
mouse button will crash his world, don't mention Linux in his presence. :)
They're good machines; I'd love to have one of the recent
ones...with Linux. I love the three-button mice, the ability to "own"
my machine completely, and I really don't like having anyone to hold my
hand. I love fiddling to do more and different things never intended by
the person from whom I bought it.
That's my choice; but use the above to make yours.
