I don't remember how Outlook works, but I think "Sylpheed" (what I use)
may suit you:

http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/

Closely related to Sylpheed, there is also "Sylpheed Claws", which I
think has recently been renamed to "Claws Mail":

http://www.claws-mail.org/

Both the above clients are extensible via plug-ins, and both manage
multiple e-mail accounts easily: you have a "default" account from
which all e-mails are sent, but whenever you want to send using one of
your other account, all you have to do is select it from a drop down
list at the top of the composing window, very easy :-)

Of course you can also use Evolution, which is the default mail client
in Ubuntu, but I found it too bloated, unresponsive and buggy, which is
why I looked at Sylpheed (and -claws), are they are much more snappy,
and do mail only (I didn't need all the "groupware" features of
Evolution).
I have not looked at Evolution for over a year I think now, so maybe it
has improved and you should give it a try to see for yourself.
