I found the specs on the net. I searched for BENQ G774 SPECIFICATIONS.
Lots of pages turned up. I ran the X config script as specified on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FixVideoResolutionHowto?highlight=%28X%29%7C%28reconfig%29
and edited xorg.conf in /etc/X11 to insert the vertical and horizontal
refresh limits. I rebooted and amazingly, X worked properly with the
res and refresh rates I had specified. It's a 15'' screen I set at 1024
x 768. Works well for a 55 year old client. Finer res is harder for us
55'rs to see.
Thanks,
Alex
