For the OP: follow the instructions in the "Manual instructions for
installing the newest Thunderbird (32-bit only)" section starting from
'Extract the zipped archive'. Just be sure to change the version from
2.0.0.5 to 2.0.0.6 in the commands. Example:
from the page:
sudo tar -C /opt -zxvf thunderbird-2.0.0.5.tar.gz
change to:
sudo tar -C /opt -zxvf thunderbird-2.0.0.6.tar.gz
You can find scripts to automate the install on that same page.
