guessing is pretty brave for such an essential bit like the bootloader
of your system :)

the package description claims the following:
"GRUB 2 (also known as PUPA) is the Preliminary Universal Programming
 Architecture for GRUB. It is a research project for the next generation
of GNU GRUB."

i'd revert to the supported grub from teh "research version" version if
i were you :)
