Feisty live CD killed HD - explanation

My friend's "new" laptop was purchased from eBay, complete with a 
faulty "reconstructed" version of XP.
All I did was burn and supply a Feisty Live CD for him. 
The response a day or two later, you know.
Rather than reply with a string of savage invective I decided to 
ask for your expert comments.
I have copied all of them to one large file to send to the *&%$$# 
fsck - ing idiot.

Thanks everyone. If the aforementioned ungrateful dimwit still 
insists the CD caused  HD breakdown there is little hope for the 
survival of his sole remaining neuron.
