    It depends on what you mean by 'monitoring'.

    - cacti is good at watching traffic in use and graphing it (SNMP)
    - Nagios is good at letting you know when things break (also SNMP)
    - tcpdump (and it's GUI counterpart) can give you forensic data
    - lots of other tools, like Scotty/TkIned exist, too.

    Maybe you want to look at Freshmeat.net?
