sony dru-170c driver

I am new to the ubuntu(linux) environment. Can someone tell me where I can get the driver for my Sony DVD (dru-170c). It reads DVD's but will not write to a blank disk. Keeps giving me "please insert blank disk". But when I do, I get the same error message. Please help!
