Strange Performance problems

It's really amazing how the Ubuntu community helps you with problems
more then "how can I play an mp3 on Linux"!

However so far I didn't figure out much, except that everything is
really slow (12 sec to open a new bash!!!) I did an strace with
timestamps, which is attached below, but so far I didn't figure out
anything.
