Hi Brian

From what I understand you tried to partition the drive via a windows program 
and started having probs since then. Sounds like something went awry with the 
partioning to start with which does happen from time to time. You could try 
repartitioning the drive from scratch and then reinstalling. You should be 
able to use the partioner built into the install disk as you answer the Q's. 
Or you could download the gparted live cd
