Apt Errors Question

Hi List,

Whenever I update using any apt frontend, I get this
error repeatedly:

BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 171
Major opcode: 147
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device

I suspect this is the old Wacom error in X-conf but
not sure. Please tell me, a linux dummie, just what is
the linux Ubuntu way of determining what the device
and opcodes are? How can one determine them?
Also, why can't I just comment out the Wacom, eraser
thingies as I use to without breaking X(KDE login). I
did this just after upgrading to Feisty and it broke
X.
Did I just comment out something vital besides the
Wacom stuff by accident or has something changed in
X-conf? When I fixed X again by uncommenting the Wacom
stuff, I don't remember uncommenting anything other
than the Wacom stuff and I did pay special attention.
Any ideas, as I just can't stand any errors, even
benign ones. Synaptic also said to run
/usr/sbin/update-grub instead of /usr/bin/update-grub
or similar, which I did without any error. But it
sounds like there was a path problem somewhere?
Haven't rebooted yet, a littly afraid even though
update-grub ran ok. Any comments, suggestions are
welcome. Thanks for the help you guys and gals do,
much appreciated.
