Hi,
I've had such a laptop for a while (since April-ish), and was running
the 64bit version on it. However, ultimately, I came to the conclusion
that it wasn't really worth it - things that you might want to do on
i386 can be impossible on amd64 without hours of tweaking. On a more
practical note, it's easier to test packages which might only have been
built for i386 if you've got an i386 system :). Hence, I reinstalled
with i386 a couple of days ago.
In order to get the installer (live-cd) to run, I had to use a number of
options on the end of the boot line (pressing F6 at the menu screen).
These were:
irqpoll pci=noacpi noapic nolapic acpi=off (from [0]).
HTH,
Martin.
