CD Not recognized by older pc

could be a bad cd drive?

Do you have windows installed? If so, you can try wubi (its an ubuntu 
installer for windows which goes out and downloads (K)(X)(Ed)ubuntu 
alternative install iso, and installs it from there. it does not require 
repartitioning your hard drive)
